Roger Pailhas retrospective at MAC Marseille honors influential gallerist
A posthumous homage to Roger Pailhas (2006–2007) took place at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Marseille (MAC), celebrating the gallerist's impact on the city's artistic landscape for over twenty years. He established Arca in 1982 and curated notable exhibitions, including New York 85 with Leo Castelli. His gallery commenced operations in 1986, expanding to Paris in 1990, and he initiated the Art Dealers fair in 1996. Following the sale of his construction business, the gallery relocated to a 1,000-square-meter venue in 1997. The exhibition, organized by Jean-Louis Maubant, Thierry Ollat, and Marie-Christine Pailhas, showcased works from artists such as Dan Graham, Richard Baquié, and Daniel Buren, emphasizing Pailhas's influential role in Marseille's art scene.
