Rodtchenko, Weegee, and Emerging Photographers in Paris 2007

In 2007, Paris featured significant exhibitions of modernist photographers, including Alexander Rodtchenko and Weegee, as well as showcases by Julia Fullerton-Batten and Matthew Pillsbury. Rodtchenko's exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, running from June 21 to October 16, highlighted his transition to the 'New Vision' style, which led to his criticism and subsequent removal from the October group in 1931. Weegee's retrospective at the Musée Maillol, from June 20 to October 15, focused on his crime scene images, addressing themes of social inequality. Fullerton-Batten's 'Teenage Stories' at Galerie Baudoin-Lebon (September 4–22) examined adolescent struggles, while Pillsbury's 'Time Frame' critiqued technology's impact on humanity. Both artists received the HSBC Foundation for Photography award in 2007.
