Rodrigo Moura Appointed Chief Curator at El Museo del Barrio in New York

Rodrigo Moura has been named the new chief curator of El Museo del Barrio in New York City, announced on Friday, March 15. This appointment concludes his tenure as adjunct curator of Brazilian art at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP), where his final project was the Djanira da Motta e Silva exhibition co-curated with Isabella Rjeille. The museum stated that Moura's integration aims to expand the understanding and reach of its Permanent Collection, foster relationships with emerging and established artists, and deepen connections with Latin American and Caribbean communities. Executive Director Patrick Charpenel, in the role since 2017, highlighted Moura's bold curatorial vision, innovative thinking, and leadership skills honed over twelve years at Inhotim, where he served as curator and artistic director. Moura joined MASP in 2016, organizing exhibitions such as 'Portinari popular,' 'Agostinho Batista de Freitas,' and 'Imagens do Aleijadinho.' In a press statement, Moura expressed great enthusiasm about joining El Museo del Barrio to imagine and implement a new curatorial vision for this historic and singular institution.
