Rodin Exhibition Opens in McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Provence

A new exhibition of works by Auguste Rodin has opened at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Provence in Miramas, near Marseille, running until September 9, 2017. The show, titled "Rodin et ses contemporaines," features eight Rodin sculptures from the private collection of J.W. Kaempfer Jr., including five figures from "The Burghers of Calais," a bust of Victor Hugo, and the large "Balzac. Avant-dernière étude" (1897). Curated by Edward Horswell and Oliver L. Wootton in collaboration with Sladmore Gallery, London, the exhibition also includes works by Rodin's contemporaries and successors such as Aristide Maillol, Joseph Bernard, Emile-Antoine Bourdelle, Joseph Csaky, Robert Wlerick, Rembrandt Bugatti, and Francois Pompon. The venue, a luxury outlet center, aims to make art accessible to a broad public, a strategy previously employed by Hong Kong entrepreneur Adrian Cheng with his K11 malls. The exhibition coincides with the centenary of Rodin's death, marked by shows at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée de Beaux-Arts de Calais, and the Flint Institute of Arts. McArthurGlen, founded in Europe in 1993, operates 24 centers in nine countries and plans expansion into Málaga and Ghent.
