RoCollectible 2026 reimagines doors as symbolic thresholds in Milan exhibition

architecture-design · 2026-04-21

RoCollectible 2026, an exhibition curated by Rossana Orlandi and Nicoletta Brugnoni, transforms the door into a site of aesthetic and symbolic exploration during Milan Design Week. Over 70 international creatives, including established figures like Patricia Urquiola, Michele De Lucchi, and Maarten Baas alongside emerging talents, present works at Galleria Rossana Orlandi on Via Matteo Bandello. The show challenges the reduction of doors to mere technical elements in contemporary design, restoring their symbolic dimension as thresholds that mediate between interior and exterior, privacy and openness, memory and possibility. Each piece engages with light, sound, and the body, turning the act of opening or closing into a conscious experience. Material diversity ranges from reclaimed woods to experimental structures, exemplified by Roberto Sironi's 'Future Memories', which uses beams from traditional Japanese houses to reinterpret the passage of time. The exhibition constructs a spatial sequence of transitions, redefining how we inhabit spaces and positioning design as an evolving process. It serves as a contemporary map of material and conceptual experimentation, emphasizing sustainability through climate, territory, materials, and social responsibility as integral to architectural practice. This edition of RoCollectible builds on themes from Glocal Design Magazine's 88th issue, which addresses sustainability as a system reshaping contemporary architecture.
