Rochechouart Museum Reopens with New Spaces; Frac Languedoc-Roussillon Shows at Villeurbanne

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The Musée départemental d’art contemporain de Rochechouart has reopened after a two-year renovation, showcasing new interiors designed by architect Jean-François Bodin. The ground levels now host dedicated spaces for artists such as Ugo Rondinone and Gabriel Orozco, while the attic features Arte Povera pieces acquired prior to curator Jean-Marc Prévost's tenure, which began in 1992. A concrete-vaulted tower displays Rineke Dijkstra's Buzzclub. Concurrently, the Frac Languedoc-Roussillon launched part of its collection at the Institut de Villeurbanne in the exhibition Dévoler, highlighting works by David Vincent and Simon Starling. Both exhibitions, reflecting the influences of Prévost and Barak, challenge the lines between institutional and private collections and emphasize the lack of paintings, urging for clearer deaccession guidelines.
