Rocasal: Contemporary Dining in Mexico City's Pedregal
Rocasal, a new restaurant in Mexico City's Jardines del Pedregal, merges contemporary international cuisine with warm design rooted in the volcanic landscape. Located on the ground floor of Cráter Pedregal, the project by Módica Ledezma draws inspiration from the site's mineral force—rock and salt. The Pedregal area was shaped by the Xitle volcano eruption approximately 1,700 years ago, later becoming an iconic urban development where architects Luis Barragán and Max Cetto designed architecture deeply connected to the environment. Rocasal's interior features a minimalist atmosphere with nods to 1950s modernity, geometric art pieces, and a warm palette. The culinary proposal is led by executive chef Atala Olmos, who creates a menu from fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. Her cooking blends techniques from America, Europe, and Asia, reflecting her career across three continents. Recommended dishes include jurel ceviche with mojito foam, chicken curry, and spinach gnocchi in parmesan cheese sauce. The chocolate with cardamom dessert is a personal statement linking to Mexican culture. Tableware and service pieces were selected and created by Mexican artisans, including glass cups from Oaxaca. The restaurant aims to be a lasting concept, not a passing trend, welcoming neighbors, families, couples, and groups.
