Robinhood launches AI agent stock trading and virtual credit card
Robinhood announced on Wednesday that it is launching support for AI agentic trading and a new agentic credit card. Users can create a separate account for their AI agents, connect them to a dedicated wallet, and allow agents to read portfolios, suggest investments, and place orders using only the pre-loaded balance. Agents will send notifications of all trades, and some trades require user approval. Robinhood has built fraud detection, with a team reviewing suspicious trades. Users can connect agents to Robinhood's Model Context Protocol (MCP) service for tasks like analyzing concentration risk and executing trades. The feature is in beta and currently only supports stock trading, with plans to add options, crypto, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets. Robinhood is also debuting a virtual credit card for AI agents, available to Robinhood Gold Card holders, with monthly limits and optional approval for each payment. The Robinhood Platinum Card will get a similar feature later this year. Robinhood acquired AI research platform Pluto in 2024 and added an AI assistant last year. Abhishek Fatehpuria, VP of product, said the launch responds to customer demand to connect their own tools and agents to Robinhood. Other companies like Stripe, Amazon, Google, and Prava Pay are also building AI agent payment capabilities.
