Roberto Paci Dalò's 'Long Night Talks' Installation at Vienna's MuseumsQuartier

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Italian sound artist and visual artist Roberto Paci Dalò (Rimini, 1962) presents 'Long Night Talks. For Robert Adrian' at TONSPUR-Q21/MQ MuseumsQuartier Wien, opening July 30, 2017. The installation combines sound and images, dedicated to Robert Adrian (Toronto, 1935 – Vienna, 2015), an experimental artist known for mixing traditional media with new technologies and telecommunications. Paci Dalò describes Adrian, along with painter James Rosen and composer John Cage, as his principal masters, friends, colleagues, and inspirers across New York, Canada, and Austria. He shared 'Long Night Talks' with Adrian for over 25 years, staying at Adrian's studio in Wiednerhauptstrasse during visits to Vienna, where their endless nightly conversations—both seated before computers—immersed him in a world of art, media, technologies, telecommunication systems, radio, and internet. The installation primarily uses a conversation with Adrian recorded in 2001 during an exhibition dedicated to the Canadian artist at Kunsthalle Vienna, for which Paci Dalò made a short film. Adrian's voice accompanies seven drawings conceived as a constellation, evoking the seven days of an imaginary week in Adrian's studio. On opening day, Ö1 Kunstradio will broadcast a nearly one-hour radio piece generated from the same materials but radically redesigned. The exhibition runs from July 31 to November 25, 2017, at TONSPUR_passage, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna.
