Roberto Kusterle's Unique Artist Book 'Cartacei' Published by studiofaganel

publication · 2026-04-27

Gorizia-based studiofaganel has released 'Cartacei', an artist book by Roberto Kusterle, continuing its editorial mission amid pandemic closures. The 70-year-old artist created 114 copies (100 numbered and signed with an original print on recycled paper, plus 14 special editions on Hahnemühle paper), each unique. The work consists of 15 manually treated photographs inside a high-quality paper container, evoking a folder of memories. Kusterle employed various paper-aging techniques, stamped each image like archival documents, and scanned, overlaid, and manipulated materials from his archive. Subjects include anthropomorphic bodies with female, male, and animal features, requiring close attention to discern details, strength, and decay. The book and photos are on view at studiofaganel until January 22. Angela Madesani reviewed the work, noting its subtle reflection on the current moment and its exploration of time, consumption, and development.
