Roberto Grossi's Graphic Novel 'Il grande prato' Debuts at Napoli Comicon

publication · 2026-05-05

Roberto Grossi (born 1968), a Roman architect, illustrator, and comic author, has released a new graphic novel titled 'Il grande prato,' published by Coconino Press – Fandango. The story follows two shy, introverted twin boys without a real family, children of suburban decay and poverty, who spend their adolescence on a patch of nature at the city's edge. This grassy area is slowly being consumed by urban expansion. The twins observe their squalid, decadent world with innocence and enthusiasm: the factory as a fortress, trash heaps as treasure troves, a Roma camp as a happy village, and plastic bags caught on branches as signs of approaching spring. The narrative explores the conflict between the metropolis and the meadow, city and nature reclaiming small spaces from concrete. The book will be first presented at Napoli Comicon (April 28 – May 1, 2017), with national bookstore release on May 4, 2017. Published by Coconino Press – Fandango, Bologna, 2017, 2016 pages, black and white, €17.50, ISBN 9788876183447.
