Roberto Concas Appointed President of Fondazione Costantino Nivola

Roberto Concas, a 73-year-old art historian from Cagliari, has been named the new president of the Fondazione Costantino Nivola, succeeding critic and curator Giuliana Altea after her decade-long tenure. Concas brings extensive experience in cultural heritage management, having directed the Museo Archeologico and Pinacoteca Nazionale di Cagliari, the Spazio San Pancrazio, the Basilica di San Saturnino, and the UNESCO site Su Nuraxi di Barumini. He also taught art history at the University of Sassari until 2012. The foundation oversees the Museo Costantino Nivola in Orani, Sardinia, which houses the largest European collection of works by the Sardinian-born artist Costantino Nivola (1911–1988). In an interview, Concas outlined plans to modernize governance, revise the foundation's statute, and pursue digitalization of its documentary and audiovisual archives, including materials from Europe and the United States. He emphasized a commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and youth engagement through residencies and training programs. Concas also announced the upcoming first-time presentation of a series of small drawings Nivola created in his final years, evoking his beloved Orani. The foundation's partners include the Nivola family, the Municipality of Orani, the Sardinia Region, and the Fondazione di Sardegna.
