Roberto Chartam's 'Esto solo es agua' Transforms Cristina Enea into Immersive Drawing

Roberto Chartam (Bilbao, 1977) presents 'Esto solo es agua' at the Fundación Cristina Enea in San Sebastián, on view until September 13, 2026. The exhibition converts the three halls of the Centro de Recursos Medioambientales into an immersive space constructed from wool threads and aluminum. Chartam's installations use tensioned wool and aluminum structures to explore line, drawing, and geometry, translating natural patterns such as the golden ratio, Fibonacci sequence, and pi into three-dimensional compositions. The artist treats the architectural space itself as the support for his work, integrating visitors into the piece. This is Chartam's first major incorporation of aluminum, a material that dialogues with the Basque sculptural tradition of Oteiza, Chillida, Remigio Mendiburu, and Néstor Basterretxea. The show maintains a close link to the environmental context of Cristina Enea through the use of natural materials and mathematical principles found in nature. Chartam holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Salamanca. The exhibition is curated by the foundation and written about by Victoria Arribas Roldán.
