Roberto Andò's 'Una storia senza nome' premieres at Venice, explores Caravaggio theft

Roberto Andò's film 'Una storia senza nome' premiered out of competition at the 75th Venice International Film Festival and will be released in Italian cinemas on September 20 via 01Distribution. The movie blends cinema, art, and noir elements, centering on the real-life 1969 theft of Caravaggio's 'Nativity with Saints Lawrence and Francis of Assisi' from the Oratory of San Lorenzo in Palermo. The heist, long linked to the Sicilian Mafia, is among the FBI's top ten most important stolen artworks. The film follows Valeria, a young secretary who secretly writes for a successful screenwriter, Alessandro (Alessandro Gassmann), and receives a dangerous plot from a stranger. Micaela Ramazzotti plays Valeria, whose character transforms from insecure to confident. Andò describes the film as a return to a lighter tone while exploring imposture and imagination's impact on reality. Recent claims by Mafia collaborator Gaetano Grado suggest the painting still exists and is kept in Switzerland.
