Roberta Torre's 'Le favolose' premieres at Venice Film Festival

Roberta Torre's film 'Le favolose' premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days). The film centers on five transgender women who reunite twenty years after the death of their friend Antonia. Antonia's family buried her in men's clothing and under her birth name Giampaolo, denying her identity. The group organizes a séance to honor her wish to be buried in her green dress, a symbol of freedom. The film is a manifesto against the erasure of transgender identity after death, highlighting how families often alter funeral aesthetics and tombstones. It features real-life activists including Porpora Marcasciano, Nicole De Leo, Sofia Mehiel, Veet Sandeh, Mizia Ciulini, Massimina Lizzeri, Mina Serrano, and Antonia Iaia. Produced by Donatella Palermo, the film was released in Italian theaters from September 5 to 7, 2022, by Europictures.
