Roberta Maola's 'Tempĕstas' at Mesia Space in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Artist Roberta Maola presents 'Tempĕstas,' a participatory project blending performance and exhibition at Mesia Space in Rome from September 18 to 20, 2025. Inspired by the Butterfly Effect, Maola distributed around 300 origami butterflies across the city in the preceding months, inviting public reflection on individual agency. The centerpiece is a graphite-on-wood work divided into 81 panels, which will be reassembled on the final day. During intimate live sessions, Maola draws each panel only in the presence of a participant who found a butterfly, symbolizing internal locus of control. Curated by Giulia del Papa under the 'Umanità?!' project, with patronage from Women Visual Artists Database and WindMill ART POWER PLANT, the opening on September 18 features a reading of Walt Whitman's 'O Me! O Life!' by Laura Cianca and a choral intervention with Laura V.d.B. Facchini. Additional performances include 'Io sogno farfalle e tu?' by Silvia Stucky and the poetic reading 'IlluminatE' curated by Patrizia Chianese, with voices including Lucianna Argentino, Candy Candy, Laura Colombo, and Maria Grazia Savino. Three panels will be donated to participants at the end.
