Robert Zhao Renhui's 'Seeing Forest' at Singapore Pavilion for 60th Venice Biennale
Singapore will be represented by Robert Zhao Renhui at the 60th Venice Biennale, showcasing 'Seeing Forest' at the Arsenale – Sale d’Armi, Campo della Tana 2169/F. This exhibition includes three new pieces influenced by the country's secondary forests. For eight years, Zhao has utilized camera traps to document wildlife in areas affected by human activity. The centerpiece is a two-channel video titled 'The Owl, The Travellers and the Cement Drain (2023).' Additionally, 'Trash Stratum (2023)' features a sculptural installation with 12 screens displaying creatures found at an abandoned dustbin, while 'Buffy (2023)' presents a digital print of a buffy fish owl. The Biennale will take place from 20 April to 24 November.
