Robert Pattinson curates Sotheby's Contemporary Curated auction in New York

Actor Robert Pattinson, known for roles in Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Batman, has been named curator for Sotheby's Contemporary Curated auction in New York. The exhibition runs from September 23 to 29, 2022, with the auction on September 30. Pattinson selected six works by artists including Richard Serra, Willem de Kooning, Genieve Figgis, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, spanning painting, sculpture, and collage. He described the curatorial process as 'exciting' and 'satisfying,' noting a connection between acting and art. Sotheby's Contemporary Curated series, launched in 2013, invites figures from music, fashion, film, and business to curate works from the post-war period to today. Previous curators include Swizz Beatz, Margherita Missoni, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Aoki, Jay Chou, and Ellie Goulding. Pattinson emphasized selecting works with a 'language of their own' that resonate deeply, citing attraction to the 'cosmic and alien' as well as the 'subversive, raw, slightly dangerous.' He advised collectors to acquire pieces they will love for life.
