Robert Morris posthumous exhibition at Galleria Nazionale in Rome
The Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome hosts the first major posthumous exhibition of Minimalist sculptor Robert Morris (1931–2018), originally conceived with the artist before his death. The show combines two sculptural cycles—MOLTINGSEXOSKELETONSSHROUDS (2015) and Boustrophedons (2017)—never before exhibited together in Europe, featuring 38 linen and carbon fiber figures soaked in epoxy resin. Curated by Saretto Cincinelli, the exhibition transforms into a commemorative tribute, marking Morris's return to Rome after 40 years. Director Cristiana Collu describes the show as a 'temple of the spirit,' emphasizing the term Monumentum to signify art as a place of value rather than mere representation. The works reference historical masters including Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Francisco Goya, Hans Holbein, Andrea Mantegna, and Auguste Rodin. Originally scheduled for March 2019, the exhibition was postponed after Morris's death but retains the original project. An additional felt installation, Untitled (1976), is included in the context of Time is Out of Joint.
