Robert Gligorov's Immersive 'Backbone Crossing Ratio' at Palazzo del Popolo in Todi

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Robert Gligorov (Kriva Palanka, 1960) presents the solo exhibition 'Backbone Crossing Ratio' at Palazzo del Popolo in Todi, curated by Giusy Caroppo of Circuito del Contemporaneo, in collaboration with the Comune di Todi, Galleria Giampaolo Abbondio, and Edomila sas. The immersive, multisensory, site-specific work explores the 'backbone crossing ratio' — the smallest molecular knot randomly created in quantum physics — through a post-classical lens. The exhibition extends to the exterior of the medieval palace, illuminated by nuggets reflecting sunlight as a metaphor for the life cycle of stars. Inside, the Sala delle Pietre features 'Qalaq,' a palindrome installation of thirty colored tents emitting spice scents and shifting sounds, symbolizing a rite of passage and childhood memories. This leads to 'Nunc Nunc-Dalek,' a monumental palindrome sculpture of an arcane deity holding a rope with countless knots, representing eternal present and existential aporia. The knot motif recurs throughout Gligorov's work as a symbol of collective unconscious trauma.
