Robert Devriendt's Cinematic Paintings Invite Writers to Create Narratives
From March 12 to June 15, 2009, Robert Devriendt, born in Bruges in 1955, presents a series of small-scale paintings at the Musée des beaux-arts in Tourcoing, France. Each piece, no larger than 6 x 9 cm, is described as sensual mignardises and captures various vivid scenes, including an American car in a forest, a broken wine glass, a red sandal, a shiny pump, amaryllis blooms, an orchid with a striking vulva, and a young couple in an embrace. Titles like Heidegger's Forest (2007) and Le Nouveau Rituel I and II (2008) add depth to his work. For this exhibit, he joins forces with seven writers from Belgium and France on a project called Peinture et Scénarios, blending literature and art while exploring the concept of a film script.
