Rob Pruitt Discusses Therapy Paintings Series at ArtReview Live Event
American artist Rob Pruitt will participate in an ArtReview Live event on Monday 23 November at 7pm, where he will discuss his new exhibition Therapy Paintings. The exhibition opens on 24 November at Massimo De Carlo in London. Pruitt explains that the series originated from his weekly therapy sessions, where he began bringing a pocket-sized notepad and pen to scribble automatically, which helped him speak more freely. He initially viewed these drawings as mere residue of his therapeutic progress but later recognized their potential as the foundation for abstract paintings he had long wanted to explore. The event will be held at ArtReview Bar, located at 1 Honduras St, London EC1Y 0TH, with the bar open until 11pm. Senior editor Helen Sumpter from ArtReview will moderate the discussion. Pruitt has seen a therapist for much of his adult life and found that the automatic scribbling opened a valve in his brain, allowing emotional energy to be captured and contained in the paintings. RSVPs for the event can be sent to rsvp@artreview.com.
