Riyadh Art Issues Global Call for Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium 2025 with 'From Then To Now' Theme

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Riyadh Art has launched an international open call for sculptors to participate in the Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium 2025, scheduled from January 15 to February 9, 2025. The sixth edition of this annual event will select 30 artists from Saudi Arabia and worldwide to create public artworks using locally sourced stones in Royal Gold, Green, Royal Rose, and Black Basalt varieties. Applications close on September 8, 2024, and require at least five years of professional sculpting experience with exhibitions in outdoor spaces and galleries. Selected participants will receive an artist fee along with covered expenses including accommodation and international flights. The symposium will feature 22 days of live sculpting in Riyadh, culminating in permanent installations across the city as part of Riyadh Art's ambitious 1,000-work collection. Curatorial leadership comes from Sebastian Montoya, Senior Public Art Specialist at Qatar Museums, and Dr. Manal Alharbi, a prominent Saudi art figure. A comprehensive public program will engage communities through school visits, workshops, and expert-led discussions. This initiative represents a key component of Riyadh Art, launched in 2019 by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of the city's mega projects. Previous editions have involved over 120 international sculptors, focusing on integrating sustainable creative works into Riyadh's cultural landscape.
