Riyadh Art Adds 115 New Works to Citywide Permanent Collection
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City is enhancing Riyadh Art's Permanent Collection with plans for 115 new public art installations through 2026 and beyond, in addition to the existing 75 pieces. This initiative, which began in 2019, aims to integrate art into transport corridors, plazas, and urban areas instead of confining it to a specific cultural district. The collection features a mix of newly commissioned artworks and acquisitions, showcasing both contemporary and historical artistic practices. Notable artists include Alexander Calder, Anish Kapoor, and Saudi talents Zaman Jassim and Mohammed Al Saleem. Recent additions include Calder's 'Janey Waney' and Nobuo Sekine's 'Phase of Nothingness', alongside restored works by Al Saleem. Monumental site-responsive pieces will also be unveiled along major urban routes by 2026, following an international artist selection process.
