Rivian Updates Flagship R1 SUV with New Trims, Captain's Chairs for 2027

other · 2026-08-13

Rivian has unveiled updates to its flagship R1 electric SUV and pickup for the 2027 model year, following the successful launch of the R2. The R1S now offers second-row captain's chairs, converting the cabin from seven to six seats with a center pass-through for long items, individual folding armrests, and integrated cup holders. The chairs can also fold to create a table space. The entire R1 range gets simplified trim levels: Premium, Performance, and the flagship Quad, replacing the previous emphasis on motor count. New color and wheel options are available for the R1T pickup. Performance and range remain unchanged, with the Quad model hitting 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and the Long Range R1T offering an official range of 420 miles. Interior trims have been overhauled to distinguish the R1 as a luxury vehicle, with options including Slate Sky Signature (grey leather with plaid and walnut), Black Mountain Signature (ash wood accents), and Ocean Coast Signature (California-inspired). The updated R1S starts at $83,990, and the R1T at $79,990. The updates aim to broaden the distance between the premium R2 and the evolving luxury R1. Images were provided by Brandon Dela Cruz.
