Rivian Unveils SOM-Designed EV Plant Renderings in Georgia

Rivian, an electric vehicle producer based in Irvine, California, has unveiled new designs for its upcoming manufacturing facility in Stanton Springs, Georgia, situated an hour to the east of Atlanta. This $5 billion project, crafted by SOM with AEI as the engineering firm and Clayco handling construction, is projected to generate 7,500 jobs by 2030. Elle Navarro, Rivian's senior director of facility operations and workplace development, describes the campus as a 'city in the forest.' Spanning 1,800 acres adjacent to I-20, it will include low-profile warehouses for various manufacturing processes, a wastewater treatment facility, and abundant green spaces for recreation, such as picnic areas and a 13,000-square-foot 'Rivian Museum.' The facility is expected to commence operations by 2028. Plans were revealed in 2023, and Rivian opened its East Coast headquarters in Atlanta's Fourth Ward this August, an area recently enhanced by new constructions from Olson Kundig and Morris Adjmi Architects.
