Rivian launches onboard AI assistant in latest software update

ai-technology · 2026-05-13

In its recent software update (2026.15), Rivian has launched a new AI digital assistant known as the Rivian Assistant. This feature is accessible to all owners who have a subscription or are trialing Connect+, Rivian's connectivity services. Users can activate the assistant by pressing a button on the steering wheel, selecting an icon on the infotainment screen, or using voice commands such as "Hey Rivian" or "OK, Rivian." The update is designed to work with both older Gen1 Rivians (model-year 2024 and earlier) and the newer Gen2 models. Since Rivian's infotainment system does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, this assistant is crucial for hands-free operation. Volkswagen Group invested $5 billion in Rivian due to its software capabilities.
