Ringier Collection Celebrates 30 Years with First International Show at Langen Foundation

The Ringier Collection, assembled over three decades by Swiss publisher Michael Ringier, marks its 30th anniversary with 'Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Film, Video, Sound' at the Langen Foundation in Düsseldorf. Curated by Beatrix Ruf and artist Wade Guyton, the exhibition features approximately 520 works from the 1960s to the 2000s, including pieces by Andreas Gursky, Christopher Williams, René Daniëls, and Cindy Sherman. The show deliberately omits labels and didactic materials, potentially challenging for less experienced audiences. The Langen Foundation, designed by Tadao Ando, occupies a former NATO missile site in the Lower Rhine region, with 1,300 square meters of exhibition space across two interconnected subterranean cubes. Ando preserved the original earth bastions and added a semicircular concrete wall with an incised portal. The foundation is part of the Hombroich Island nature complex, undergoing reforestation to restore the pre-military ecosystem. The exhibition runs until October 5, 2025.
