Right to the City: Atlas of Transitions Biennale Opens in Bologna

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The Atlas of Transitions Biennale launched its first ten-day program, Right to the City, in Bologna from June 15 to 24, curated by Piersandra Di Matteo. The event, co-funded by Creative Europe and led by Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione, involves ten partner countries. It began with a guided tour of MAMbo's permanent collection featuring a collective textile work, Punteggiatura, by Eritrean artist Muna Mussie, created with the Scuola delle Donne del Pilastro and the Biblioteca Italiana delle Donne. The biennale includes installations at the Garage dell'Arena del Sole, such as Vedute Prossime, Capture from Unleashing Ghosts (a collage of 200 instant photos using Alessandro Carboni's EM Tools method), (In)visible sound by Anna Raimondo, Tentativi di esaurimento di alcuni luoghi bolognesi by ZimmerFrei, and Cities by Night_Bologna by Valentina Medda. A talk with Moroccan islamologist Rachid Benzine addressed the Aquarius crisis and Italy's new government. The biennale also engages peripheral areas like Piazza dei Colori, involving the Centro Sociale del Biacco and Hub Mattei, the largest reception center in Emilia Romagna. The project aims to foster new interactions among citizens, migrants, and refugees, avoiding the 'poor migrant' rhetoric.
