RiGenerazioni Festival Brings Augmented Tradition to Liguria

The Premio Loano, a two-decade-old award for contemporary Italian folk music, has expanded into the RiGenerazioni – Tradizioni aumentate festival for its 21st edition. Running from September 5 to 14, 2025, the diffused festival will take place in Loano and three inland Ligurian villages: Balestrino, Boissano, and Toirano. The program includes concerts, talks, walks, workshops, and community actions. The award component remains, with Maria Mazzotta and Pierpaolo Vacca named winners of the 2024 Premio Loano for Best Album and Best Young Album. Artistic directors Jacopo Tomatis and Ciro De Rosa describe the festival as a platform for musicians rethinking tradition through contemporary languages like electronics, post-rock, and improvisation. Highlights include Lindal fusing Occitan tradition with visionary electronics in Boissano; Lavinia Mancusi performing from her album A Cruda Voz in Balestrino; and the Duo Giacchero–Rey weaving Occitan and Francoprovençal sounds in the Grotta della Basura cave in Toirano.
