RIF – Museo delle Periferie Launches in Rome's Tor Bella Monaca

institutional · 2026-04-27

The RIF – Museo delle Periferie, conceived and curated by Giorgio De Finis, has been announced as a new cultural hub in Rome's Tor Bella Monaca district. The project originated from discussions at MACRO Asilo and is now part of the Polo espositivo e della cultura contemporanea coordinated by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, alongside Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Macro, and Mattatoio. Deputy Mayor Luca Bergamo emphasized Tor Bella Monaca's role as a center of innovation despite media portrayals. The museum aims to function as a laboratory for cultural planning, connecting major institutions with local territories. Assessor Alessandro Marco Gisonda highlighted its goal to spotlight peripheries globally and foster a more equitable city through artistic practices. The program includes a specialized library, video library, permanent collection, participatory workshops, exhibitions, publications, lectures, and meetings. It launches on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Teatro di Tor Bella Monaca, running until May 2021. Weekly activities will take place at Istituto scolastico Melissa Bassi, featuring 'Automappatura' workshops to create a guide of Rome's periphery and the 'ROMO' relational project promoting neighborhood twinning. Speakers include Carlo Cellamare, Alessandro Melis, Francesco Careri, Franco Purini, Bertram Niessen, and Juana Sànchez Gòmez.
