Ricreazione returns to Mattatoio di Roma with free performance workshops for all ages

The second edition of Ricreazione, a free workshop cycle on contemporary performative arts, opens at Mattatoio di Roma in Testaccio. Curated by Ilaria Mancia and Marina Donatone, the project offers two tracks: 'mappa mondi' for primary school children (ages 6-8 and 8-10) featuring movement, theater, music, and drawing labs to foster creative exploration and critical thinking through play; and 'traiettorie' for adults, allowing deeper engagement with invited artists' practices in a shared creative process. Promoted by ROMA Culture under the Assessorato alla Cultura, the initiative aims to reclaim shared space through artistic formation. The Mattatoio, a former slaughterhouse built between 1888 and 1891 by Gioacchino Ersoch, underwent conservative restoration from 2006 to 2010 by ZoneAttive. Managed by Musei in Comune until 2017, it later became home to Roma Tre's Faculty of Architecture and classrooms of the Accademia di Belle Arti. Since 2018, under Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, it is part of the 'Polo del Contemporaneo' redevelopment plan for a research, training, and production hub for contemporary arts. Today, Mattatoio serves as a center for national and international research in performative arts, visual arts, scientific languages, and architectural design.
