Richter and Johns Dual Exhibitions Open at David Zwirner New York
At its 537 West 20th Street venue, David Zwirner New York has launched two simultaneous exhibitions: Gerhard Richter: Landschaften and Jasper Johns: Copy/Trace. Richter's showcase highlights his photorealistic landscape artworks created between the 1960s and 2000s, along with selections from his Abstrakte Bilder series (1976–2017). Curated by David Zwirner and David Leiber in collaboration with Richter, the exhibition features loans from prominent private and museum collections, including pieces from his upcoming retrospective at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2025–2026). The landscapes, inspired by travel snapshots and reminiscent of Caspar David Friedrich, are arranged chronologically alongside abstract pieces, emphasizing Richter's exploration of image perception. Meanwhile, Jasper Johns: Copy/Trace, curated by Jeffrey Weiss, examines Johns's techniques of copying and tracing in works from the 1960s to the 2010s, supported by a new scholarly essay. Both exhibitions are open from May 7 to July 10, 2026 (Richter) and June 26, 2026 (Johns), with an opening reception on May 7 from 6–8 PM.
