Richard Timperio's Sideshow Nation Salon Draws Thousands in Williamsburg
The annual salon exhibition, Sideshow Nation, hosted by Sideshow Gallery, will conclude on March 24, following a two-month display. This event boasts the participation of 470 artists and attracted an audience of 2,000 on its opening night. Gallery director Richard Timperio organized the exhibition, which reflects contemporary artistic endeavors in a traditional 19th-century salon format. Among the notable artists are Paul Resika, Bill Jensen, and Dorothea Rockburne, with dealers Janet Kurnatowski and Pauline Lethen also involved. Family ties are represented by Timperio's children, Willie and Cheyenne, as well as the Landfield and Christensen families. The showcase features works from the late Willoughby Sharp and Dan Christensen. Timperio established Sideshow Gallery in 1995 and relocated to Bedford Avenue in 2000 during gentrification. Critics Roberta Smith and Jerry Saltz have attended in previous years.
