Richard Saltoun Gallery Launches 100% Women Initiative to Address Gender Inequality in Art

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In March 2019, Richard Saltoun Gallery in London introduced 100% Women, a year-long program focused on female artists. This initiative was prompted by a 2018 report from Marijke Steedman for the Freelands Foundation, which indicated that only 22% of solo exhibitions at significant London museums showcased women artists in 2017, marking an 8% drop from the previous year. The program commenced on March 1 with Rose English's solo exhibition, Form, Feminism, Femininities, which will be on display until April 13. Future exhibitions will feature artists like Lili Dujourie and Gina Pane. Additionally, the gallery unveiled the digital exhibit Women Artists After Empire, curated by Lynda Morris. Richard Saltoun, the gallery owner, reaffirmed his dedication to promoting female artists and achieving gender equality in the gallery’s lineup.
