Richard Deacon's 'Some Time' exhibition at Middelheim Museum features restored sculpture and explores temporal themes

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Middelheim Museum in Antwerp presents 'Some Time,' a solo exhibition by British sculptor Richard Deacon running from 27 May to 24 September 2017. The show features 31 works installed throughout the museum's 30-hectare park, including pieces from Deacon's Infinity series (2001-06) and restored sculpture Never Mind. Museum director Sara Weyns initiated restoration of Never Mind after seeing it in poor condition in storage; originally created in 1993 from polished beech, it was remade in aluminum for the exhibition. The exhibition explores themes of process, transformation, and temporal extension through works like Body of Thought #2 (1988), Morning Assembly (2008), and the I Remember series (2012-13). Other sculptures in the park include Henry Moore's King and Queen (1952-53) and Erwin Wurm's Misconceivable (2010). Deacon's work incorporates visible construction elements like rivets and seams, while the exhibition addresses sculpture's vulnerability to decay through accompanying materials including a film and detailed book.
