Richard Dadd and Clare Woods exhibitions open in London

Two major exhibitions open in London this week. At the Royal Academy of Arts, 'Beyond Bedlam' (25 July to 25 October) explores the work of Victorian artist Richard Dadd, who was forgotten until the 1960s when his life in asylums inspired later artists. Meanwhile, at Pitzhanger Manor, Clare Woods' 'Garden Without Seasons' (29 July to 8 November) presents meditative paintings and collages of nature in the Sir John Soane-designed country house, pushing boundaries between abstraction and figuration. Additionally, Michael Pinsky's 'The Final Bid' at Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham (25 July to 4 October) features secondhand chairs hung from the ceiling that visitors can bid on, with each bid raising the chair higher. Susan Hughes' exhibition at MAC in Belfast (30 July to 18 October) showcases objects, songs, and a stage for performances based on her travels collecting stories about traditional music in Ireland.
