Rice Brewing Sisters Club presents new installation at Busan Biennale exploring coastal ecology and haenyeo culture
Founded in 2018 by Hyemin Son, Aletheia Hyun-Jin Shin, and Soyoon Ryu, the Rice Brewing Sisters Club will showcase their mixed-media installation titled 'Sea Plants, Bare Hands, Entangled Gaetbawi' at the Busan Biennale until November 6. Their artistic approach, centered on 'social fermentation,' utilizes rice to delve into Asia's agricultural and culinary customs. They have conducted various workshops and performances, such as a 2019 session in Manila and an online 'kkureomi' workshop for the Gwangju Biennale in 2021. In 2020, they released their debut film, 'Cheopcheopdamdam Iyagigeuk.' Their project in Busan highlights the effects of coastal industry and honors the haenyeo. The collective also recently took part in Documenta 15 in Kassel.
