Riccardo Monachesi's 'Elementa' at Certosa di Trisulti

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Certosa di Trisulti, a 13th-century Carthusian monastery in Collepardo, Italy, will host 'Elementa', a solo exhibition by sculptor Riccardo Monachesi (Rome, 1954), curated by Simona Ciofetta, opening June 28, 2024. The monastery, returned to public ownership in 2021, spans 80,000 square meters and includes a library of 36,000 rare volumes and an 18th-century pharmacy. The exhibition features 26 site-specific installations with over 400 ceramic pieces created from 1990 to the present, placed throughout the church, gardens, orchards, and pharmacy. Works range from organic forms like 'Pneuma' to architectural pieces such as 'Ali' and 'Semilune', culminating in religious reinterpretations of the Via Crucis and Saint Sebastian. Ciofetta notes Monachesi's sensitivity to architectural space and his use of clay as a medium balancing design and chance.
