Riccardo Donati Publishes Intellectual Profile of Philologist Leo Spitzer

Riccardo Donati, professor of Italian literature at the Scuola Superiore Meridionale-Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, has authored "Leo Spitzer. Un profilo intellettuale" (Carocci, 2026). The book examines the fifty-year critical research of Leo Spitzer, a renowned Romance philologist born in Vienna in 1887, who taught at universities in Cologne, Marburg, and Baltimore. Spitzer was a polyglot writing in French, Spanish, Italian, English, and German, and died in Forte dei Marmi in 1960. The volume comprises three chapters, each dominated by a specific theme, and aims to answer why Spitzer is relevant today.
