Riccardo Beretta's 'Paravento' at Galleria Francesca Minini, Milan
Riccardo Beretta (born 1982 in Milan) presents a new solo exhibition at Galleria Francesca Minini in Milan, his first since 2012 at Zero… In Via Massimiano. The centerpiece, 'Paravento (First Victims Playground)' (2015-17), is a dark screen cutting perpendicularly through the entrance hall, displaying surface anthologies on both sides. The exhibition explores themes of playgrounds, childhood pastimes, and the loss of innocence through small photographs with painted backgrounds, positive/negative contrasts, and depth of field. In the last room, a hidden project room contains five sleeping bags arranged in a circle around a velvet void, bearing traces of soft colors and inscriptions of unmediated cruelties.
