Riccardo Benassi's 'Morestalgia' Installation at Bologna Station

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Riccardo Benassi, an artist born in 1982 in Cremona and currently residing in Berlin, introduces 'Morestalgia,' an installation that examines the concept of nostalgia in the digital era. He developed the term 'morestalgia' to refer to 'augmented nostalgia,' a phenomenon arising from online experiences. The installation features a prominent LED screen designed like a tent and will be showcased from January 23 to 27, 2020, at Bologna's railway station during Art City, which is associated with ArteFiera 2020. Benassi investigates the potential of social networks to connect varied personal histories, proposing the idea of 'digital empathy.' Following its debut, the work will be exhibited at ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien in Karlsruhe and presented as a performative lecture in Melbourne, Berlin, and Bologna from March 26 to April 4. This project has won the 5th Italian Council edition and will become part of Museion's permanent collection.
