Ria Bosman's Fifth Solo Show at Tatjana Pieters, Ghent

Tatjana Pieters Gallery in Ghent presents the fifth solo exhibition of Belgian artist Ria Bosman (b. 1956). Known for her abstract works bridging textile and painting, Bosman uses natural materials like flax and leather, as well as found objects such as placemats and sisal mats, as painterly media. Her practice systematically explores color effects on form, materials, and space, with recent works featuring stronger contrasts after years of subtle differences. The exhibition includes sketchbooks, works on paper, textile paintings, tile and object paintings, and monumental leather and textile structures. Despite her inclusion in major collections—S.M.A.K. (Ghent), the Jorge M. Pérez Collection (Miami), and the Juan Carlos Maldonado Collection (Miami and Madrid)—international recognition has been slow, which the gallery attributes to gender biases in the art world. In 2025, Bosman had her first institutional solo show at BE-PART in Kortrijk, Belgium. Two publications document her oeuvre: 'Selected Works 1978-2021' (Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, 2022) and 'Overwegingen' (Posture Editions, 2025), featuring 75 works on paper.
