Rhizome's Net Art Anthology to Unfold 100 Works Over Two Years
On October 27, Rhizome, an organization focused on preserving net art since 1996, is set to launch the Net Art Anthology at New Museum in New York. This online exhibition will roll out 100 net art projects over two years, showcasing the genre's development from the 1980s to today, with a special focus on the mid-1990s to early 2000s. Funded by the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Art Foundation, the anthology involves research, restoration, and updates of essential works for current technology. The first phase will highlight pieces made before 1999, starting with VNS Matrix's 'A Cyberfeminist Manifesto for the 21st Century' (1991). The launch will include a roundtable with artists and curators like Olia Lialina and Martha Wilson.
