Rhizome Appoints Aria Dean as Editor-Curator; MASP Hires First Indigenous Curator; Art Berlin Cancelled

Rhizome, the nonprofit associated with the New Museum in New York, has appointed Aria Dean as their new editor and curator. Dean, who has been with Rhizome since 2016, has led several projects, including publishing, events, and the Net Art Anthology. In an important development, Sandra Benites has been named adjunct curator for Brazilian art at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, becoming the first indigenous curator in a Brazilian museum. A Guarani Nhandewa woman, she previously curated DjaGuata Porã and will contribute to MASP's 2021 program, Histórias indígenas. Aider les Autres is holding a raffle for Picasso's 1921 piece Nature Morte, with the winner announced on January 6. The Margaret Tait Award shortlist includes Emilia Beatriz, Sulaïman Majali, Kimberley O’Neill, and Hardeep Pandhal. MoMA PS1 has also revealed Ruba Katrib and Serubiri Moses as curators for Greater New York 2020. In 2020, Art Berlin fair was canceled by Koelnmesse due to financial issues.
