Return to Monkey Island: New Chapter of Cult LucasArts Game Announced

Ron Gilbert, creator of the original Monkey Island series, announced a new installment titled Return to Monkey Island on April 1, 2022, via his personal blog. Initially dismissed as an April Fools' joke, the announcement was confirmed with a teaser trailer released on April 4, 2022. The game will feature the return of demonic skull character Murray and voice actor Dominic Armato as protagonist Guybrush Threepwood. The original Monkey Island, The Secret of Monkey Island, was published in 1990 by LucasArts (founded by George Lucas in 1982, rebranded as Lucasfilm Games in 2021). The series revolutionized point-and-click adventure games with its innovative graphics and pervasive humor. Return to Monkey Island is expected to launch later in 2022.
