Restored Subalpine Parliament Chamber Opens to Public in Turin

The Palazzo Carignano's Subalpine Parliament chamber in Turin, crafted by Guarino Guarini and constructed from 1679 to 1683, has recently been significantly restored. After its closure in 1860 and designation as a national monument in 1898, the restoration project was launched by the Piedmont Region, supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, and carried out by Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale” under the direction of Massimiliano Caldera. More than 15 experts and students from the University of Turin participated, employing advanced methods such as drone surveys. The last major restoration occurred in the 1980s, with a conservation effort in 2010-2011. The chamber welcomed Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for the 40th Conference of State-Regions on October 3, 2023, with public access available from October 6 to 8.
