Restored Salviati Chapel Reopens in Florence's Palazzo Portinari Salviati

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

After many years, the Salviati Chapel located in Palazzo Portinari Salviati, Florence, has been restored and is now open to the public. This chapel, adorned with artwork by Alessandro Allori from 1579 to 1580, showcases a unique oil-on-wall technique. The restoration effort was spearheaded by conservator Anna Medori, alongside Andrea Vigna, under the oversight of Adriana Novelli and Guido Botticelli. The artwork includes a vault featuring Prophets and Sibyls, scenes of Old Testament sacrifices, and murals illustrating the life of Mary Magdalene. This restoration is part of a broader initiative launched in 2019 by LDC Group, which also involved renovating historic rooms and creating dining areas. Guided tours commenced on September 19, 2022, and can be arranged via phone (055-535353) or email ([email protected]).
