On December 4, 2023, Italian theaters will debut a newly restored 4K version of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Spellbound' (or 'Io ti salverò' in Italian). This film marks Hitchcock's first dive into psychological thrillers and is based on Francis Beeding's novel 'The House of Dr. Edwardes'. It was showcased in the Cannes Classics section during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The restoration came about through a partnership involving Walt Disney Studios, The Academy Film Archive, MoMA, and The Film Foundation at Cineric, Inc. and Audio Mechanics. Notably, the film features dream sequences designed by Salvador Dalí, who worked with Hitchcock for around a month, producing over a hundred sketches and five oil paintings. Released in 1945, it stars Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck, with the restoration amplifying its famous dream sequences and Freudian themes.
