cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

After more than two years, the Sala delle Quattro Porte in Venice's Palazzo Ducale has been restored, a project spearheaded by Save Venice, a nonprofit organization from the US established in 1971. The total expenditure for the restoration was €747,000, with Save Venice contributing €662,000 and The Gritti Palace hotel providing sponsorship. The restoration took place from November 2023 to January 2026, emphasizing late-16th-century frescoes by Jacopo Tintoretto and stuccowork by Giovanni Battista Cambio, alongside structural reinforcement. Sixteen restorers collaborated under the Soprintendenza di Venezia and Fondazione MUVE. This room, which served as an antechamber for officials, is distinguished by four grand doors. In 2026, The Gritti Palace intends to initiate a conservation project for the Scala dei Giganti.
